Growing up, my love for basketball was nurtured in solitude. Without a mentor or any formal guidance, I navigated the game on my own, developing a deep passion for it. This journey of self-discovery in basketball led me to forge my own vision and values for the sport. In high school, I eagerly seized every opportunity to mentor fellow athletes, finding immense joy in sharing my insights and helping others grow.
The Wake-Up Call
A defining moment came during a weekend game at an elementary school gym—a place where I spent countless hours playing. After an intense and exhilarating game, my teammates and I gathered in the middle of the court. As I spoke about in-game momentum, energy, skill development, and the psychology of sports, I noticed everyone around me listening with rapt attention. Among them was a young player who clearly valued my perspective.
Watching their engaged faces, I realized just how much I had learned and how passionate I was about sharing this knowledge. It was in that moment that I understood my true calling: teaching and mentoring. The joy I felt from helping that young player, who was eager to learn and excel, was profound. It sparked a commitment in me to study player development more deeply and to become a dedicated trainer and mentor.
